The mission of the Conductive Learning Center is to provide opportunities for preschool and school age children with motor challenges to achieve optimal physical, cognitive and social independence through the application and promotion of conductive education principles. Parents of children with physical disabilities such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and disorders affecting motor function have long faced the prospect of their child being unable to live a life of independence. In 1945, a Hungarian physician, Dr. Andras Peto, developed a revolutionary method for treating children with nonprogressive motor challenges, called Conductive Education. The Conductive Learning Center (CLC) employs this unique dynamic, integrated learning system, which combines education with rehabilitation, to teach the child to gain control over their movements and acquire skills allowing for the accomplishment of daily living activities. CLC works with children, birth through age 26. These children are often limited in their ability to perform basic motor and life skills. The program is delivered in an intensive, group setting, where the children and their peers begin seeing themselves as active, self-reliant participants in the world, resulting in increased confidence and problem solving skills.
