Macomb County Warming Center, Inc.
We have a network of churches that rotate weeks during the months of November into early April. The churches provide shelter, volunteers and simple hot meals. Volunteers provide intake of guests, distribute blankets and pillows, cook and serve the meals, check guest bags for the night, help provide security and clean up in the mornings. Bedding is laundered by staff and volunteers. We shelter an average of 500 guests a year. Our Ray of Hope Day Center serves homeless guests by offering the use of our phone, fax and mailing address. We obtain ID and birth certificates – necessary first steps for job and apartment-seeking; post local job openings, provide necessary transportation and provide referrals to other agencies as indicated. The Peer-to-Peer Support Group Project is a program of peer support, guidance and feedback for motivated homeless individuals to assist in securing permanent housing, employment and mainstream activities. Peer-to-Peer support relies upon the input, suggestions, directions, tips and techniques from peer homeless to each other in weekly roundtable group discussions where ideas are offered freely and emotional reinforcement is readily available. Our goal is that after first finding shelter, each guest will eventually find a permanent home. Please visit our website for more information>
