North Star Reach’s mission is to provide life-changing camp experiences for children with serious health challenges and their families. To achieve this, North Star Reach is building an accessible summer camp and year-round retreat center near Pinckney, MI. Through a range of traditional camp activities and a custom-designed facility with 24-hour medical support, North Star Reach will provide cost-free programs to help children overcome the physical, emotional and social barriers posed by their condition. As a provisional member of SeriousFun Children’s Network, North Star Reach is joining the world’s largest family of camps for children with serious illness.

Winning the Art Van Charity Challenge will help North Star Reach to design, pilot, implement and evaluate a new program in advance of opening our year-round facility – North Star OutReach Program.  North Star OutReach program will bring the hopeful, playful spirit of camp directly to children in their hospital rooms.  Our OutReach specialists will, in partnership with hospital staff, help to enhance the patient experience, the host hospital’s mission and North Star Reach’s mission by bringing the fun, friendship and the joy of camp to the bedside.
