Special Dreams Farm

“As president and co-founder of Special Dreams Farm I can say the positive impact the Art Van Charity Challenge Grant offered is two fold. The money itself is being used exactly how we described in our application, and that is for on site programming. This money was essential in supporting the cost of running a day to day full time program for developmentally disabled adults. The second huge benefit of the grant was credibility. Anybody that knows anything about Michigan and especially the Detroit area knows the Art Van name. For people to know that Art Van supported Special Dreams Farm proved to offer validity to our organization. In addition, others in the non-profit business know the competition for the limited number of grants issued, and to have Special Dreams be chosen for this honor put us in very good company. To sum it up I would say that “The Art Van Charity Challenge Grant not only help fund our Special Needs Farm for adults, but gave our organization validity and honor for being selected.”

Special Dreams Farm is a place for Adults with Developmental Disabilities to work learn and grow together.  We Grow our own food, learn to cook with it and share it with the community by selling produce at a roadside stand.  Special Dreams Farm offers an environment  for these special needs adults to work on a team, socialize, improve independent living skills and feel good about a productive work experience.  The farm is a great source of pride for the individuals that work it and we are very fortunate to have the assistance of ArtVan to keep us going.
