This week, our featured charity is Every Woman’s Place.

Every Woman’s Place/Webster House Youth Services is a crisis agency serving victims and survivors of domestic and sexual assault as well as homeless and runaway youth and youth at risk of becoming homeless. Services include counseling, therapy, case- management, legal advocacy, housing support and shelter services. The agency also works in the streets to connect to homeless teens in Muskegon, North Ottawa, Newaygo and Oceana counties. Domestic and Sexual Assault services support Muskegon County. Couch surfers describes teens and young adults who sleep from one house to another for safe shelter. The Couch Surfing Campaign to End Homelessness is designed to raise funds and awareness of homelessness and to show how individuals can become homeless as a result of family violence, running away, family dynamics, and much more. The Mission of Every Woman’s Place & Webster House Youth Services is to improve and enhance the lives of women, youth and families in crisis in our community by providing and advocating for services which lead to their safety, their emotional and economic self-sufficiency, their productivity, and their ability to participate fully in our society.

This week, our featured charity is Whaley’s Children Center.

Whaley Children’s Center’s mission serves resilient youth, teaching them how to succeed as individuals and providing them with the tools they need to reach their full potential. Whaley Children’s Center provides intensive treatment and support as well as a variety of educational programs to 42 children at a time in an effort to mitigate the negative effects of a life times’ worth of abuse and neglect. The Art Van grant will help fund the Youth Enrichment Program.

This week, our featured charity is Women’s Caring Program.

The Women’s Caring Program (WCP) began in 1979 as a circle of friends who met at the home of WCP Founder Carol Walters. As time passed, this growing group of women became especially concerned about the childcare needs of working families. They created the Women’s Caring Program in 1995 and launched the ChildCare Commitment program. The statewide ChildCare Commitment program was created to help disadvantaged and working poor families not eligible for child care payment from another funding source. It gives tuition assistance for children from birth to five years for quality care and early education. WCP works to break the cycle of poverty by promoting academic achievement early in the life of a child. Awards are distributed on a statewide basis with priority focus in regions with high population density and corresponding poverty levels. More than 1,000 families in 64 of Michigan’s 83 counties have been helped with awards. The group’s mission is to serve as leaders for supporting children and families on the road to independence through early childhood development.

Third Level Crisis Intervention Center is this week’s featured charity.

This week, our featured charity is Third Level Crisis Intervention Center.

Third Level Crisis Intervention Center’s mission is to help youth, adults, and families to grow, change, and thrive during times of crisis and life transitions. Their 24 hour crisis telephone line and walk in services focus on: crisis intervention, counseling, suicide prevention and intervention, information and referral services, after hours mental health emergency services access, follow up counseling in furtherance of suicide prevention. The Art Van grant will help fund Pete’s Place Youth Shelter that provides temporary emergency shelter for up to 21 days for runaway, homeless and at risk youth, age 14-17.

This week, our featured charity is Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids.

Bringing Tenderness To Tragedy and turning tragedy to triumph for the families of kids who have lost a parent by providing practical, professional, and personal assistance at each stage of the grieving and recovery process. This Foundation is dedicated in honor and loving memory of Manuel S. Yatooma (1947-1993).

The sudden loss of a parent triggers a broad range of family crises that may take years to surmount. Through partnerships with business professionals and social service organizations, Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids assembles a team of volunteers to meet each family’s unique needs throughout each phase of their grieving and recovery process.

Variety, The Children’s Charity is this week’s featured charity.

This week, our featured charity is Variety, The Children’s Charity.

The generous grant support received from Art Van allowed Variety to continue to reach out to more than 15,000 children in need in our community. Grant funds were used in support of the Variety Myoelectric Center to benefit children to live fuller and more productive lives. Once the amazing “miracle limb” is put on a child, there is a tremendous physiological change which immediately leads to a more normal life.
Art Van’s support has enabled us to continue our mission to serve children by assisting children in the costs of myoelectric prostheses and to provide hope and opportunity for children with special needs in our community.
The grant funds were used in support of the The Variety Produce Rescue Mission Program which provides healthy, nutritional food to children. Many needy people don’t get any fresh vegetables or fruit and perishables are hard for agencies to handle and hard to get to people, so what we are strive to do through this program is close the loop. Variety’s goal for the Produce Rescue Mission has been to provide healthy, nutritional food to children who otherwise might go to bed hungry. With the help of Art Van, this year we were able to provide thousands of children and their families with much needed nutritional food.
The funds were also used to support the Variety K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations) Program. This program provides coats, clothing, shoes, books, toys, and school supplies to children to keep them safe and healthy. This program provides children with a sense of pride and dignity.

This week, our featured charity is The First Day Shoe Fund.

The First Day Shoe Fund’s mission is to provide new shoes to children in grades K – 2 in the Kalamazoo Public School system who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch as set by the Federal government. The Art Van grant will go towards shoes for 2011 distribution.
